10:40 VARIATION I / video out of analog photo negatives & sound, 2011
Variation I of 10:40 can be seen as a fundament upon which the following variations are to be built. It is the most rigid and technical of all variations, adhering to a strict structure that allows only one image at a time to change, only one note at a time to be played. The images are arranged in three groups in accordance with the three musical voices. Its structure is faithful to the chronology of the seasons (with winter at its center) rather than to the visual and auditory material at hand. Part II of Variation I, including winter, can here be viewed and heard, played by piano, bassoon and double bass.
