I have always found myself fascinated with the finest details.
All complexities are available already in them.
Lines and curves, movement, dynamics, directions. Relations, in between.
Concealment, disclosure & continuous unfolding.
Some things show us their unique beauty, others let us discover it. I like the discovering process, spending time with an object, getting to know it – it’s a very intimate process. And then it reveals something to me. The result is visible, but the process and the connection of intimacy are invisible. They are only sensed below the surface, behind what is visible.
For over a couple of decades now I’ve been drawn to the mysteries and metaphors of abstraction, of nature and of music, as well as to their relations with one another. A particular area of interest of mine both artistically and academically is the relation of art with the Absolute and with the Sublime.
Born in 1979 in New York, I encountered artistic analog photography already in my early teens and have been practicing it ever since. I studied art & photography for a Bachelor’s degree in Austria (University of Arts Linz) and for a Master’s degree in northern Finland (University of Lapland). Parallel to my studies, I photographed in classical music projects for many years, seeking to bring out the more individual and intimate sides of collective music making.
Alongside my ongoing artistic activity, I began working towards a doctorate in philosophy & art, focusing on phenomenology, particularly Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s ontology and his theory of perception. Later I completed a Master’s degree in art therapy (Weißensee Academy of Art) in Berlin and worked at the Charité clinic.
Here in Berlin I currently give workshops & courses in analog photography and work as art therapist in my practice. I am also part of the creative collective Rooms of Kairos.
Art & Photography are and have always been an essential part of my life.
