Variation II is based on a similar general structure to that of Variation I, though it differs from it in the details of its construction, which infuse it with more flexibility. Its sound in particular, therefore, bears a very different character, including simultaneous and overlapping notes and a clearer division of the three voices. As in the first variation, the images are arranged in three groups in accordance with the three musical voices. Part I of Variation II is here presented for a three-hand piano.
